Description
Summary:The general objective of the study is to design and develop a prototype of a tracking device that implements the principle of triangulation using infrared signals. The device tracks location by triangulating the signals that it receives. The coordinates of the location will afterwards be displayed. The overall operation of the device is demonstrated in a specified grid covered by the area of triangulation. This is the area where the tracker is within the sight of the transmitters. The main components of the tracker are the Power Supply, Stepper Motor, ADC and the Microprofessor. The power supply drives the whole system while the stepper motor scans all the signals and measures the angles. The ADC is used for comparing signal strength. Additional features were added to the design of the device. These were found to bear an important part in the performance of the system. These are the lenses, Infrared LEDs and many others. Though it may have its own share of weak points, the prototype is deemed to be the fulfillment of the study. The thesis proponents think that it could be further developed by making it flexible. Moreover, batteries that could sustain the required current could be used instead of the power supplies in the laboratory.
