When parking lot management make use of manual logging methods, it would cause an increase in queueing time which is propagated throughout the queue. Also, finding an available parking spot is a frustrating and struggling experience especially when the parking lot is almost full. This leads to more gas emissions by vehicles looking for parking slots and could cause anxiety and stress to students and faculty members alike. Additionally, information regarding available parking spaces or navigation info within the parking lot is not remotely accessible. This paper presents a smart parking system that aims to reduce the queuing time as well as the time it takes to park for people that use the parking lot. Additionally, another problem to be solved is letting parking lot users have information regarding parking space availability. The proposed smart parking system to be presented in this paper has 4 main components an NFC-card based payment system, a License Plate Recognition system, a Slot Monitoring System, and an Android application that is integrated with the parking lot system.
