(kulasi) are mangrove species that can be vegetatively propagated by stem cutting because of their ability to form roots on cuttings. On the other hand, Rhizophora apiculata Lam. (bakauan lalake), Rhizophora stylosa Griff. (bakauan bato), and Rhizophora mucronata Blume. (bakauan babae) cuttings did not form root though some of them survived. A total of two hundred seventy cuttings for each mangrove species were soaked in auxins: namely Indoleacetic Acid (1AA), Napthalene acetic acid (NAA), and 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) at 0.375mM, 0.125 mM, 0.0125 mM concentrations respectively and another ninety cuttings were used as control for each mangrove species which were soaked in distilled water. Observations made after 4, 7 and 10 weeks showed the following responses: browning, yellowing or whitening of the base, formation of adventitious roots, and emergence of leaves. Survival percentage for every treatment and type of auxin were noted. Among the auxins used, 1AA was found to enhance the rootability of the cuttings.
