Being single: The concerns of Filipino bachelors and bachelorettes

This study aimed to identify and describe the life of selected single men and women along the biophysical economic and psychosocial dimension. Sixty (60) respondents selected using the purposive sampling technique underwent a survey interview phase, and from them, twelve (12) were randomly selected for the in-depth interview. Data were converted into percentages to identify the common changes and effects of these changes among the three variables, sex, age and income level, and thereafter qualitatively analyzed. Results indicate that the biophysical changes were due to innate gender differences and basic aging processes. It also highlighted the importance of income allocation to answer the basic needs in life and the psychosocial and financial effect of tragic family deaths. The researchers concluded that singlehood, for most of the respondents, is just a temporary state.
