Summary:Acute toxicity tests were conducted to determine the percent mortality of T. nilotica exposed to different concentrations of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid with the brand name of Hedonal (4-10 mg/l), metamidophos with the brand name of Tamaron (2-8 mg/l) and monocrotophos with the brand name of Nuvacron (2-8 mg/l). The 96-hr LC50 of the three pesticides was estimated using the Trimmed Spearman-Karber. A 28.9% mortality was observed in the 4 mg/l, 47.8% for 6 mg/l, 60% for 8 mg/l, and 93.3% in 10 mg/l in the pesticide Hedonal. For Tamaron, 17.8% mortality was observed for 2 mg/1, 38.9% for 4 mg/l, 53.3% for 6 mg/l, and 85.4% for 8 mg/l. For Nuvacron, the average percent mortality obtained were 21.3% for 2 mg/l, 35.7% for 4 mg/l, 51% for 6 mg/l, and 76.7% for 8 mg/l. An average percent mortality of 5.67% was observed in the control. The 96-hr LC50 was 6.218 mg/l for Hedonal, 4.975 mg/l for Nuvacron, and 4.797 mg/l for Tamaron. Tamaron was found to be more toxic to T. nilotica than Nuvacron and Hedonal. In general, as the concentration of the pesticide increased, the mortality of T. nilotica also increased.
