Aetas after Mt. Pinatubo: Problems encountered and coping strategies employed

This is an exploratory study on the problems encountered and the coping strategies employed by the Aetas living in the Iram relocation site in Olongapo. The problems were categorized into general and specific headings, and the data gathered were sorted and placed under each category. The general categories of problems are: self, community, economic, and environment. The same procedure was enacted on the data gathered on the coping strategies of the Aetas. The general categories of coping are: problem-focused, emotion-focused, resignation, and doing nothing. A survey questionnaire was administered to gather data. The data were likewise analyzed according to gender and age. Among the 80 participants were 26 males and 54 females. Results showed that economic problems rank first among the concerns of the Aetas and problem-focused coping was the strategy most frequently utilized.
