Effects of conjugal power differences in contraceptive use: The case of the Philippines

The main purpose of this study is to capture the conjugal power differences between the Filipino spouses in using contraceptives. The variables needed were obtained from the 2003 national demographic and health survey. The power index was constructed using principal component analysis. After which, the different profiles of couples in terms of their achievement of their desired number of children were identified. These profiles are the variables used in the regression model, which was constructed using the variables obtained from the 2003 national demographic and health survey. Utilizing the multinomial logistic regression, the differences on the effects of conjugal power of the husband and wife on contraceptive use was demonstrated.
