Description
Summary:Fuel characteristics of briquettes from soya pulp pre-mixed with different organic residues are evaluated through experimentation. These organic residues are rice straws, rice hulls and cattle manure, all of which were mixed with the pulp according to three percentage level, 25 percent, 50 percent & 75 percent. Cassava starch was used as binder and concentration of the paste itself is another factor considered. The study covered several parameters. These are inner core temperature, smoke characteristics, heating value, crushing strength, burning rate an approximate analysis. Briquetting was made possible using the manually-operated mechanical piston press available in the laboratory. The cylindrical briquettes are of three different sizes and the behavior of each are observed. Using the results obtained, the best soya pulp-organic residue combination will be chosen based on its characteristics.
