An assessment of efficiency implications on the Philippine broiler industry

This study explored the efficiency of the current Philippine broiler industry, with concentration on three major players with the highest market share. Firms engaging in vertical integration characterized the Philippine broiler chicken industry. Vertical integration was defined as the administration of firms, upstream firm and downstream firm. These firms used vertical as a way to lessen the stages of production. The information on vertical restrictions in this study came from the three major players. Equations were derived in this study to show the comparisons of price, quantity and profit given different market structure combinations and scenarios. In order to verify the derived equations, sample values, which include the costs that were obtained through a price trace back, were applied to the equations.
