The relationship of coaching competency on the athlete's self-efficacy and hope

The present study investigated the relationship of coaching competency on athlete's self-efficacy and hope. The participants were 300 athletes from different varsity teams in Metro Manila schools. There were three instruments used: Coaching Competency Scale, the Generalized Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Hope Scale. The study was based on the social cognitive theory because it provides a framework for explaining athletes' behavior. A descriptive design was used to account for the relationship of coaching competency on self-efficacy and hope. Correlations were done among the four factors of coaching efficacy, self-efficacy and hope. The results show that all factors of coaching competency have a significant relationship to self-efficacy and hope of athletes. The results show that age is significant to coaching competency and self efficacy only. The results also show that the number of competitions is significant to self-efficacy and hope, and only one factor in coaching competency (technique).
