Description
Summary:The paper aims to explain the successes of the joint approach of the US and South Korea in the form of the US-ROK alliance and failures of Hawk Engagement and the sunshine policy toward North Korean disarmament. In order to achieve this goal, the individual approaches of the US and South Korea will be explained by using the Hegemonic Stability theory and strategic culture analysis and the coordinated approach is explained by analyzing the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of the US-ROK alliance in its attempt to influence North Korea to denuclearize. Furthermore, a particular set of data is gathered and analyzed to test the hypothesis that the joint approach of the US and South Korea in the form of the US-ROK alliance was more successful in controlling the situation in North Korea in relation to its development of nuclear weapons.
