With the advancement in the mini and microcomputer technology and the development of more efficient and sophisticated algorithms, digital image processing now presents more challenges and potentials. This paper will present a Digital Image Processing System which deals with vision. Vision is probably the most important part of the human senses. The eye can identify the distance orientation, shape, surface texture and other features of a certain object. This sense will be very useful to robot machines. The sensing technology will endow machines with a greater degree of intelligence and would increase the flexibility and scope of application of robotic systems. The hardware to be used by the system is an Image Digitizer. The software will manipulate a digitized image converted by the Image Digitizer. The system has two main functions: Segmentation and Reconstruction. Segmentation is isolation of a specific object from a scene or a digitized image, provided that objects contained in the scene are simple objects.
