Description
Summary:With the increasing capabilities and sophistication of microcomputers, not to mention its low cost, software originally used for mainframes and minicomputers are now programmed for personal computer use. This is this reason why many people and institutions nowadays prefer to use or buy microcomputers and use computers to automate their data processing systems. A lot of software are therefore designed for this purpose. To facilitate these software database management systems (DBMS) were developed. Within the DBMS are query languages that serves as an interface between the user and the DBMS. The capabilities of a PC-based DBMS are now widely explored. PC-based DBMS on top of a local area network (LAN) are also being developed. In line with this development, the project includes the design of a prototype of centralized DBMS (CDBMS) based on a client-server model supporting the relational data model. The proposed project shall support Structured Query Language (SQL) embedded in a high level language such as C. Since no PC-based DBMS had ever been developed on campus, this project will greatly benefit the computer science students of De La Salle University such that students shall have an actual view on the internal architecture of a DBMS.
