Summary:The study waws aimed to determine the short-term impact of the ORIENT 3 program on the level of career maturity of students. It also determined the difference in the career maturity of the students in the treatment and the control group in relation to their sex and educational background. Their level of career maturity was also correlated with their academic achievement. It employed a descriptive correlational quasi-experimental design (non-equivalent control group design) to collect the necessary data. The respondents consisted of the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Business and Economics students enrolled in ORIENT 3 during the first term of school year 1994-95 divided into two groups, one consisted of those who took ORIENT 3 (treatment group) and another consisted of those who did not take ORIENT 3 (control group). Thus, there was a total of 4 groups (2 from CLA and 2 from CBE) with a total of 104 respondents. Both groups took their pre-test before undergoing ORIENT 3. Those in the treatment group took their post-test after undergoing said program while those in the control group took their post-test before their scheduled ORIENT 3 classes. Furthermore, the study employed the Career Maturity Inventory, with two subscales, namely, the Attitude Scale and the Competence Test, to measure the level of career maturity of the students. The data were analyzed through the use of t-test for independent samples (for the variables of sex and college), t-test for correlated samples (for those who took up and did not take ORIENT 3) and Pearson's r (for the relation of academic achievement with the level of career maturity). Results of the study showed that there was a significant change in the Competence Test mean scores of students in the treatment group but no significant change for their Attitude Scale mean scores. Furthermore, there was a significant change in the Competence Test mean scores of the control group but no such change in their Attitude Scale mean scores. There was also no significant change in the Attitude Scale and the Competence Test mean scores of male and female students in both groups. Although, there was a significant difference between the Competence Test mean scores of CLA and CBE students in the treatment group but none for CLA and CBE control groups. There was no significant correlation between the Attitudes Scale, as well as the Competence Test and the academic achievement of the students in the treatment and control group.
