Description
Summary:This paper explores the deaf community and their engagement in the online world which is important for their portrayal in the proponents' film. The proponents found the need for this short feature film to be produced in order to shed some light into the deaf culture and to break the notion of their indifference to society. Padden and Humphries said that the deaf have found ways to define and express themselves through their rituals, tales, performances, and everyday social encounters Through this short feature, the proponents showed how the deaf expressed and interacted with their personal and online relationships. ASL is a modern romantic story of how a deaf girl, Andi, meets and eventually develops romantic feelings for Lucas who she has recently met through an online dating site. Later on, as the story progresses both of them will find out that they are both deaf.
