Playthemes and decision making of children

The study's purpose is to determine the play themes and decision making processes of male and female children from private and public schools. Four schools were observed, two schools are of the public school setting and the other two are from the private school setting. From each school, one male and one female playgroup was observed. A total of eight playgroups were included in the study. The study utilized a descriptive research design which enabled the researchers to enumerate the processes involved in decision making and the different play themes that the children chose. Data gathering was done through systematic observation which was guided by an observation checklist, after which an interview guide was used for verification purposes. The collective decision making process was added to the democratic and authoritarian decision making processes. Five out of eight groups were found to have a leader. Physical activity was the most common form of play observed.
