The problem being addressed is the threat that the present production system may not be able to accommodate the 50% increase in sales by 1998. The system management and these writers believe that they have sufficient time and resources to solve this problem. The present production may not meet 1998 projected capacity requirements for all operations of the system during the months of February, April, October, November and December wherein the total time needed in these months are 707, 758, 970, 1,566, and 964 hours, respectively. It has three main causes. First, the seasonal trend of demand attributed to the required Annual Reports at the beginning of the year and the need for Christmas promotional items at the end of the year. Second, the lack of manpower capacity during these busy months. Lastly, the occurrence of overtime due to the present scheduling system when in fact jobs can be accomplished at regular operating capacity. The following are recommended to solve the problem. First, methods improvement by decreasing the standard time required to produce a particular product. Second, hiring of contractual workers for the months of September to December 1998. Third, the use of a new scheduling algorithm that minimizes mean flow time and make span in order to prevent the occurrence of overtime. This solution is expected to produce the following results. First, the accommodation of the 50% sales increase in 1998. Second, an aggregate plan having a minimum labor cost of P 446T. Third, a 19% increase in efficiency leading to the improved over-all efficiency rating of 84% in 1998. The implementation of the recommended solution is proposed to officially start on January of 1998. 1998-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/6978 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Desktop publishing--Computer programs Image processing Photographs--Marketing Industrial-- Management Corporation Engineering
