| Summary: | A Distributed Computer System (DCS) is composed of several relatively economical workstations interconnected through a high-performance communication subnet. DCS has been the subject of vast amounts of research since the introduction of powerful microcomputers and local area networks. Among the various fields of research are distributed operating systems and distributed databases. Though, one common goal of these various researches is to be able to develop a system that would maximize information sharing. A Distributed File System (DFS) constitute the primary class of mechanisms that have evolved to support data sharing. This documentation contains the directory design and the file design used by the proponents to implement a distributed file system based from their intensive research on DFS. The focus of this paper is the designs used by the proponents and how the various concepts on directory, file and network systems were used and integrated in the project. |
