Wee, Brian C. This study is aimed at developing a computer based materials monitoring system for the construction of reinforced concrete building. Survey and interviews of key personnel were conducted to determine the principles, practices as well as the problems encountered in this area so as to provide information for system design consideration. Based on the survey and interviews, it was learned that the problems encountered by those firms consulted are: slow collection and processing of data and unmonitored losses due to pilferage. Furthermore, they have stressed that the system should have the following characteristics.1.) It must be able to monitor the levels of inventory at any given time2.) It must be able to provide a comparison between estimated and actual details3.) It must be able to project the materials requirement for any given interval4.) It must be able to adjust to changes in schedule5.) It must be able to provide timely and accurate information. As for the problem with the processing of data, a computer program was developed. This program was designed considering the requirements for materials monitoring set forth by those firms consulted. Processing of data with a computer reduces the processing time 17 times. The solution to the two other problems relies on policies that management may impose to shorten the duration in data collection and to reduce the incidence of pilferage. It is recommended to conduct a study on the viability and cost effectiveness of this proposed system. 1995-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/7033 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Computer systems Material accountability Buildings, Reinforced concrete--Costs Cost control Business--Data processing |
