Summary: | The present study explored the effects of sexual harassment and the coping strategies of female overseas domestic helpers. A sample of twelve subjects were chosen using the purposive sampling technique and the system of chain referral. It included sexually harassed Filipina overseas domestic helpers who worked in Hongkong and Saudi Arabia. The subjects who were qualified for the study were given a checklist to determine the extent of sexual harassment experienced by these female overseas domestic helpers then they were interviewed through the aid of an interview guide. The interview included the characteristics of the harassed and the harasser to establish demographical data. The different ways of sexual harassment was also revealed. The interview also dealt with the effects of sexual harassment and the coping mechanisms employed by the female domestic helpers. The results of the study showed that female overseas domestic helpers do experience sexual harassment which produced different effects on the individuals. The coping mechanisms employed by the female overseas domestic helpers also varied depending on how they were affected by the impact of the harassment. |
