The Cluster Adapter-LAT Gateway project aims to come up with an inexpensive solution to provide the growing number of the LAT service users, particularly, users of the VAX 8350, with additional terminals. This project made use of the available hardware resources and came up with a software to allow users of the JX microcomputers to emulate a VT terminal, which is used by the VAX mini computer. The processing speed of the server terminal, which serves as the gateway of the JX microcomputers and the LAT, has been found to be very important. The server terminal serves as the traffic controller of the gateway. That is, all data sent to or received from the LAT from and to the IBM Cluster Adapters has to pass through the terminal server. Thus, different means had to be incorporated into the gateway software so as not to make the server the bottleneck of all data transfers between the LAT and the Cluster Adapters. A major limitation of the project is that it can only emulate the most commonly used escape sequence command codes of a VT300 series terminal. It is felt to be useful that the emulator be made to emulate all the commands a VT300 terminal can do. Similarly, since speed is a major consideration, it is recommended that the gateway software be written in assembly language to further increase the speed in which data can be transferred from the Cluster Adapter to the LAT and vice versa. 1991-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/7196 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Electronic data processing -- Distributed processing Gateways Local area networks (Computer networks) IBM computers -- Programming OS and Networks |
