Summary:Construction projects spend and exhaust massive resources which make it pivotal in planning for it accordingly. The importance of deciding on a method to implement for a construction project will set the trend on how it will affect all stakeholders involved. The study qualitatively analyzes the factors of success for either engineering procurement and construction and design-bid and construct within the Philippines setting for projects costing more than Php 100 million. A total of eight cases were studied. Four projects were representative of engineering procurement and construction while another four represented design-bid and construct. Data collection was done through through interviews with top management and surveys for people involved in the project team. The study's key performance index, which was central to the analysis of cases, covers the core concepts of time, cost and quality of a completed project and includes the different stakeholder requirements to holistically integrate and assess the different aspects of success that a construction project should have. After summarizing the cases under the constraints of the key performance index, it was further analyzed by including similarities and notable characteristics evident in each parameter among all cases for both methods of construction. A guideline was formulated from this analyzed data. This was then validated by means of a survey to the project managers of the cases of studied. It was seen that EPC was more advantageous in its overall performance based on the guideline and key performance index factors. The study allowed for a greater understanding of the areas of strength and weakness based on the impacts of the key performance index on the use of either engineering procurement and construction or design-bid and construct method. The guideline produced will allow owners an understanding on the method of construction to be applied on a project depending on their main priority. Guided by the study'd findings, the owner will be able to plan ahead and prevent any prevalent issues noted in the parameters of the method chosen.
