Perez, Alastairs Bryant M. Sison, Alyssa Marie T. Civil engineering has many specializations and one of which is geotechnical engineering. Geotechnical engineering is an essential part, not only of civil engineering, but also of our everyday life in safety, sustainable development, and many more. However, very few are knowledgeable of this field in civil engineering. Education is the solution to having more people to be experts in this field and De La Salle University Manila plays a big role in providing quality education. This study proposes the addition of geotechnical engineering as a fifth specialization in the civil engineering undergraduate course of De La Salle University. The study comprised of surveying college students who did not apply for any specialization yet which were mostly those with the ID number 109 and 110, third year high school students from the different feeder schools of the college of engineering in the past five years, and lastly, professional civil engineers. The response from the students determined that there were enough prospective GTE specialization students and the response from professionals supported the idea that geotechnical engineering is indeed essential and needed today. Aside from conducting surveys, this study also investigated the capacity of the civil engineering department such as the laboratory equipment, laboratory space and lecture area, library resources, courses to be offered, and faculty credentials to offer the specialization. By comparing some standards of international universities as well as comparing the CHED requirements to Philippine universities, it was determined that the department is prepared to open the GTE specialization. Hence, this study will serve as the key and turning point in opening up the GTE specialization in the university. 2011-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/7273 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Engineering geology Civil engineering Civil Engineering Geotechnical Engineering |
