Isolation and antimutagenicity potential of components from the Ethyl Acetate Extracts of Vitex parviflora
Six TLC pure isolates (V1, V2, V3, V4, V4', V5) were obtained from the ethyl acetate extracts of the leaves of Vitex parviflora, by gravity column chromatography. Analysis of the 1H NMR, IR, and UV spectra indicated that the isolates are mixtures of compounds. V4' is a mixture of stigmaste...

Summary: | Six TLC pure isolates (V1, V2, V3, V4, V4', V5) were obtained from the ethyl acetate extracts of the leaves of Vitex parviflora, by gravity column chromatography. Analysis of the 1H NMR, IR, and UV spectra indicated that the isolates are mixtures of compounds. V4' is a mixture of stigmasterol and sitosterol in a 1:3 ratio, V2 is a diterpene with lupeol and מּ-amyrin as minor impurities and V3 is a triacylglycerol and fatty acid mixture.
The antimutagenicity potential of V2 and V4' were tested using the micronucleus test. Results of the study indicated that V2 reduced the number of micronucleated polychromatic erythrocyte (MPCE) induced by Mitomycin-C by 60.0% while V4' reduced the MPCE by 63.2%. Thus, the isolates are antimutagens. |
