Summary: | The thesis, entitled Microcontroller-based Water Monitoring System for Fishkill Detection, provided solution to the implementation of an electronic-based warning device before a fishkill occurrence. The basic operation of the prototype is the activation of both a GSM warning message and buzzer sound whenever either of the measured values from the dissolved oxygen with temperature meter of pH meter reaches the set threshold values by the user.
The researchers looked for different causes of fishkill especially in the Philippines. It was found that depletion of dissolved oxygen in water, too much acidic water and high temperature water caused majority of fishkills in the Philippines. The researchers used a dissolved oxygen meter with temperature measurement capabilities and pH meter as sensors to measure the parameters. The researchers put in a GSM module so that the device can send a warning message to notify the user. A buzzer was also installed to make an audible warning in case sending an SMS is not possible. An LCD was also included in the device so it may show real time measurements made by the device.
The device was tested in different settings to ensure that it is capable of fishkill detection and thereby send SMS when a critical value was reached. |
