Description
Summary:A self fabricated on-line gas chromatography apparatus was used in this study to determine the effect of several parameters in its operation. Separation Test was conducted by varying the following operating parameters: the flowrate of the carrier gas, the temperature of the molecular sieve column, and the length of the molecular sieve column. To test the on-line capability of the gas chromatography apparatus, a simulated experiment in catalysis was conducted. The experiment utilized acetylene as the analyte. The analyte was allowed to react with alumina at various temperature condition. The effect was monitored using the fabricated gas chromatography apparatus. Analysis of air injected in the apparatus, showed good separation of oxygen and nitrogen in the molecular sieve column. By varying certain operating parameters showed faster retention time in the column and better separation. The simulated catalysis experiment conducted showed the oxidation of acetylene over alumina. The separation test done on the gas chromatography apparatus is a proof that this can be used in research involving analysis of gas mixtures. This can also be used in further studies regarding catalysis.
