Paper machine is a comedy that revolves around the story of Pacita Manalaysay, an impoverished scholar studying at a reputable university in Metro Manila. She resorts to ghostwriting for her opulent schoolmates to pay her basic needs after her father loses his job only to find it all backfiring in the end. The film satirizes the issue of ghostwriting in universities by associating particular scenes to gambling, drug bust and prostitution. The film also illustrates the unequal treatment of students that occur even in prestigious universities and promotes the value of perseverance and authenticity of one's work.
