Effect of 2.2-dimethoxypropane in the synthesis of 1.2 : 5.6-DI-O-Isopropylidene-o-D-Glucofuranose under different reaction condition

Three separate samples of glucose are each dissolved in acetone after which zinc(II) chloride and phosphoric acid are added. Another three separate samples of glucose are also prepared as described above except for the addition of 2.2-dimethoxypropane on each. These two sets of samples are carried o...

Sy, Jennifer O. Three separate samples of glucose are each dissolved in acetone after which zinc(II) chloride and phosphoric acid are added. Another three separate samples of glucose are also prepared as described above except for the addition of 2.2-dimethoxypropane on each. These two sets of samples are carried out in three separate condition under sonication, heating and stirring. The progress of the reaction is monitored for every hour using TLC. The rate of reaction is comparable for both sonication and heating but slower for the stirring condition. The reaction is completed between the 9th and 23rd hour. The addition of 2.2-dimethoxypropane has no effect on the rate of reaction. Each of the solution is neutralized and filtered through suction and are then concentrated using rotary evaporator. The crude products are extracted several times with dichloromethane. Column chromatography is employed to isolate and purify the products. A higher percentage yield is obtained in the samples with 2.2-dimethoxypropane. The compounds are then characterized by melting point, infrared absorption spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. 1992-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/7854 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Glucose Chemical tests and reagents Chemistry
