Summary:The purpose of this study is to determine the perceived effectiveness of gossip as a transformative device. The study aimed to determine and explain four problems, namely: (1)An individual's reasons for gossiping, (2)Topics in gossip that have led to self-transformation, (3)Realizations about self that is obtained from gossip, and (4)The effectiveness of gossip in bringing out self-transformation from the respondent's perspective. Qualitative method was employed to forty-four students (22 males, 22 females) with an age ranging from 17-21 years old through interviews. A tape recorder and an interview guide were used. Results were analyzed using content analysis and responses were categorized. Gossip was found to bring about self-realization and behavioral transformation to most respondents.
