Description
Summary:Past studies have focused on the perspective of homosexuals in terms of their coming out process to their family, friends, and other people, although there have been few studies that show the perspective of parents and what they go through after their child disclosure. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of identity disclosure of their homosexual child to their parents. A qualitative method was used in gathering data and conventional content analysis was used in analysing the results. Conventional content analysis was used to be able give emphasis to the experiences of the participants. The participants consisted of 9 parents, either a mother or a father, whose child has come out to them for at least 6 months. The results showed that some parents experienced a change in terms of their well-being and a change in their view about homosexuality. Further results and implications of the study are discussed in the paper.
