PIU is a byproduct of boredom and when coupled with the feeling of loneliness, one is more susceptible to it. Through the use of these established tests. Boredom Proneness Scale, UCLA Loneliness Scale, Self-Regulation Questionnaire and problematic internet use Questionnaire - the researchers were able to determine that high levels of self-regulation lower one's possibility of engaging in PIU.
