Description
Summary:Emphatic embarassment has been a phenomenon in past research focusing primarily on the interaction of the actor and observer involved. This study focuses on the effect of levels of interpersonal relationship as suggested by kapwa theory (hindi ibang-tao and ibang-tao) on the phenomenon of emphatic embarassment. One hundred (100) non-academic prototypical Fillipino participants underwent a quasi-experiment with questionnaires that contain embarrassability, hiya, and emphatic embarassment involving hindi ibang-tao and ibang-tao levels of relationship. Results showed that embarassability and educational attainment significantly predict emphatic embarassment and that hiya value and relationship does not. The level of relationship towards the actor had no effect of the occurrence of emphatic embarassment.
