A lifelong career: Emotions, experiences and needs of parents of children with learning disability

This paper studies about the experiences of parents of children with learning disability, focusing on their emotion and needs. Since learning disability can be considered a hidden disability, this study would aim to create awareness to let people know that such a disability exists. A one on one interview was used to gather data for the study. The participants involved were five married couples with a child diagnosed with learning disability, namely dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia, for at least a year and whose child aged from 8-16 years. The results of the study show that the top emotions experienced by parents are anger and hopefulness while the top needs that the parents mentioned are instrumental needs and life needs.
