Description
Summary:This study is an attempt to evaluate and revise two laboratory experiments in Biochemistry laboratory. Revision of the experiment on lipids is necessary because the solvent used in extraction is highly flammable which causes accidents. The experiment on enzyme inhibition needs to be revised since the type of enzyme inhibition cannot be determined using urea as inhibitor. A new solvent system was tested for the isolation of total lipids. Results of the study indicated that the solvent system, hexane-isopropanol (3 2), effectively isolated the total lipids as proven by the positive results. The solvent used for the extraction of cholesterol was acetone. Alanine was tested for possible inhibitory action against -amylase. Results of the study indicated that alanine of different concentration is an effective inhibitor. Glucose as likewise tested but results obtained are not conclusive.
