New ideas that were once classified as science fiction can now exist in reality, thanks to the dawn of computer technology. With it comes a hope to reach complete and intelligent automation which will lighten the load of humanity. Combined with man's insatiable curiosity, it explored further into what is considered to be mysterious and developed what is has discovered. As a result of its precision, speed in processing and ability to handle in human strain, it managed to penetrate into human lives thereby mingling with their developmental needs. Soon, man found out that computers are so flexible that they have these electronic brains interfaced to their systems. Thus, specific components were manufactured to suit various system needs. Some of which are necessary peripherals for the computer to solve its problems. Take the case of coming up with an electronic public telephone system. This replaced the tedious process of coin or token changing for the person to avail of the telephone service. Instead, a prepaid magnetic card, with corresponding face value, is used in place of the tokens. Ordinary metered calls, as well as long distance calls, can be made--all of which being charged calls. The challenge here does not only include the method of interfacing the prototype with the existing digital system. And this challenge was taken by the group. Interviews and research works on related literature were sources of data gathered and used in the project development, interviewed by the group were people who are considered to be experts in the fields of telephony, of data communications, of microprocessors and of the microcomputer. The above mentioned experts gave a bird's eyeview of the interview topic, enlightened the group with practical solutions for commonly encountered problems and showered the group with suggestions and recommendations. They also served as the group's consultants when difficulties with regards to the prototype development arise.
