Description
Summary:Given that mating is a human nature, the current study aimed to discover the significant predictors of relationship satisfaction of Filipino emerging adults, and the gender differences in the preferred traits for individuals' romantic partners. Participants of the current study were eighty (80) heterosexual couples (80 males and 80 females) who have been in a romantic relationship for more than six months. In order to fit under the category of emerging adulthood, all participants were aged between eighteen (18) to twenty-five (25) years old. The big five personality test and relationship assessment scale has been used as the major research instruments of the study and multiple regression analysis has been used to statistically analyze the gathered data. The results of the multiple regression revealed that none of the big five personality dimension significantly predicts the relationship satisfaction of Filipino emerging adults, and therefore, no gender difference is found. Discrepancy between evolutionary theory and personality traits, different perspective of emerging adults towards romantic relationship, dynamics of relationship and physical factors, personality differences, and kinds of relationship is expected to be the cause of such result. Such findings will serve as a substantial evidence for future researchers for the betterment of emerging adults' lives.
