Summary: | Intelligent Computer-Assisted Instruction (ICAI), as a subfield of Artificial Intelligence (AI), is defined as the application of AI techniques and principles to the development of effective instructional systems. ICAI is not intended to replace the role of teachers, but instead, it is intended to be a powerful tool in education for both teachers and students. ICAi's goal, therefore, is to improve the quality of education. The objective of D-Math Plus )An Intelligent Computer-Assisted Instruction on Discrete Mathematics) is to supplement students of Computer Science of De La Salle University with a tutorial on Discrete Mathematics. The software would enable students to work independently and free of pressure from the rigid pace of the class. The students would be able to learn at his/her own pace and progress, because the system helps in identifying areas where the student needs further supervision by keeping track of his/her development. Research efforts has brought about the selection of an appropriate development methodology for the courseware. In addition, the research group has identified which techniques in AI are suited to the software. The result is the D-Math Plus courseware that provides a one-to-one tutoring environment. |
