Description
Summary:In this thesis, the group implemented a weather monitoring system that is both cost-efficient and not reliant on main power. The researchers made use of two-way radio as the system's means of communication. The system is also scalable, meaning that additional stations can be connected to the system to extend range. The weather monitoring system is composed of three remote stations that collect weather data from different locations, and a command center that integrates the date collected by the remote stations, interpret the received data, and displays it on a graphical user interface (GUI). The stations communicate with each other over the two-way radio via dual-tone mutli-frequency (DTMF) signals. Relaying was also employed in this system, meaning a command/data from one station passes the data to the next station, then to the next, until the command/data reaches the intended station. From the results of testing this project, the researchers found out that the system was able to transmit the weather data successfully, although the accuracy of the data received deteriorates when a station in the system is not at line-of-sight with respect to the next station.
