Description
Summary:Pipe network analysis has always been a lengthy and cumbersome process when done manually. This is because a lot of iterative procedures is necessary to arrive at a solution which conforms with certain conditions. The computer is an ideal tool to perform such tasks. Choosing Turbo Pascal Version 5.5 as the computer language and employing hydraulic principles, the group has developed a software that has shortened the time of solution. This software utilizes the Hazen-Williams equation, the Newton-Raphson method and the Gauss-Jordan method of elimination for the whole iterative process. The Hazen-Williams equation relates pipe flow to the head loss and diameters within a pipe network. This, in turn, is utilized by the continuity equation, which relates pipe flows to node consumptions. Thus, an equation relating all the consumptions, heads and diameters is arrived at. These may be regarded to as the unknowns. The Newton-Raphson method is used to form a matrix concerning the unknowns and the Gauss-Jordan method is employed to solve it.
