Attitudes of midlifers towards their sexuality according to gender and age bracket

This study aimed to determine whether there is a significant difference in the attitudes of middle aged individuals toward their sexuality particularly between male and female midlifers, and between 40-49 year olds and 50-60 year olds. The subject in this study consisted of 121 midlifers (31 females aged 40-49, 30 females aged 50-60, 30 males aged 40-49, and 30 males aged 50-60) belonging to the middle class. This study made use of a Likert survey questionnaire with 41 items based on an existing attitude scale and self-constructed items. The study made use of the t-test between groups to determine if there is a significant difference between the means of male and female, and 40-49 and 50-60 year old midlifers. The results showed that there is no significant difference (in the .05 level of significance) between the attitudes of male and female midlifers toward their sexuality. No significant difference likewise emerged between the attitudes of 40-49 and 50-60 year old midlifers towards their sexuality. Based on the results, it was concluded that midlifers, in general, tend to have a neutral attitude toward their sexuality. Male and female midlifers aged 40-49 and 50-60 have, more or less, similar attitudes when it comes to sexuality. This seems to indicate that the changes which they had experienced may not have been strong enough to create differences in their attitudes.
