Summary: | This study involves the quantitative analysis of the iron content in three commonly prescribed multivitamins for infants and children. The samples were decomposed using concentrated nitric acid. The analyte iron (III) was converted to the colored complex [Fe(SCN6]3- by the addition of excess KSCN solution. Spectrophotometric measurements were conducted (at the max =480.5nm with distilled water as a blank) using standard calibration curve and standard addition methods. Results showed that, for the standard calibration curve method, samples A,B,C contain 10.1 x 10, 5.70 x 10, 3.81 x 10 ppm iron respectively, while 9.9 x 10, 5.63 x 10,4.03 x 10 ppm iron were obtained from the same samples using the standard addition method. |
