Description
Summary:Salt of the Earth presents the realities salt farmers face, capturing the challenges that come with the offseason, posing a challenge for both the management and approximately 500 employees of Pacific Farms, Incorporated in Bolinao, Pangasinan. The documentary shows the factors that affect the livelihood of salt farmers, as well as their efforts in order to make ends meet during the low point of production in the farm. The contributions of the management to make amends during these difficult times are also presented in the film, as well as the programs and innovations that have been conducted and made in the farm. Despite focusing on the plight of the salt farmers in the industry, the documentary also provides a nuanced perspective on the lives of farmers and business owners by presenting the similarities of the aforementioned--sharing values and principles, honoring familial relations, and passing down knowledge on salt farming and salt technology from generation to generation. By the end of the film, the proponents aim to instill a deeper appreciation for a simple kitchen essential we consume every day, while providing a fresh perspective on the subject matter and encouraging viewers to support the local salt farm industry.
