Description
Summary:A preliminary assessment of a Sasrgassum bed in Talin Bay, at Matuod, Lian Batangas was conducted from June to December, 1996. Most of the species found in Talin Bay maintained a growth rate ranging from 0.1 cm/day to almost 2 cm/day, while a few were observed to have rates ranging from 2 cm/day to as much as 8 cm/day. Biomass-wise, Sargassum exhibited an increase in its weight beginning in April, with a mean value of 1043.6 g+448.49, up to September, having a mean wet weight of 5348.3 g + 747.85. After which, a drop in its average wet weight was noticed. Alginate yield was found to peak during the month of August. Extracted alginate in December was found to have the greatest viscosity.
