Evaluation of the comparative rates of BOD removal in aerated and non-aerated systems

This study evaluated the rates of BOD removal in aerated and non-aerated systems using tannery wastewater. It also looked into the possible methods of treating the wastewater. 總結:This study evaluated the rates of BOD removal in aerated and non-aerated systems using tannery wastewater. It also looked into the possible methods of treating the wastewater. Analysis on BOD, COD, Solids, pH, Clarity, Color, Sulfides, and Nitrates were monitored daily for four days for both systems. For the aerated system, the wastewater was aerated continuously for four days. The percent inoculum was varied to 10 percent and 20 percent, while the air flowrate was varied to 3 li/min and 5 li/min.For the anaerated system, the wastewater was placed in a sealed plastic container and seeded with septic waste. The results of the study showed that for the aerated system a maximum BOD removal of 59.09 percent at the 4th day of aeration was obtained at 20 percent seed and 5 li/min of air flowrate. While for the anaerated system a maximum BOD removal of 25 percent was obtained at 20 percent seed.
