Biodegradation of phenolic waste liquor in a three phase fluidized bed bioreactor

Biodegradation of phenolic waste was carried out in a three phase fluidized bed bioreactor by using a pure culture of microorganisms known as Klebsiella Pneumoniae. The effects of varying the air flow rates and solid loadings on the phenolic degradation were investigated. Also, changes in color and...

Rivera, Suzette R. Biodegradation of phenolic waste was carried out in a three phase fluidized bed bioreactor by using a pure culture of microorganisms known as Klebsiella Pneumoniae. The effects of varying the air flow rates and solid loadings on the phenolic degradation were investigated. Also, changes in color and odor were observed in this work. The percent BOD reduction and percent COD reduction were used in the characterization of the effluent. The process is by batch with respect to the liquid phase and continuous with respect to the gas phase at a residence time of 10 hours with each run utilizing 5 milliliters of Klebseilla Pneumoniae. Air flowrates ranging from 1225 to 1725 ml/min. were applied in the study. Among the experiments performed, activated carbon having a total weight of 5 grams and a gas flowrate of 1725 ml/min. gave a result of 73.02 %BOD reduction and 36.89 % COD reduction. The use of 10 grams of activated carbon and a gas flowrate of 1725 ml/min gave the most satisfying results with as high as 77.14% BOD reduction and a COD reduction of 42.52%. 1996-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/8794 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Sewage--Purification--Biological treatment Fluidized reactors Phenols Biodegradation Waste products Chemical Engineering
