Summary: | This study is about creating the distinction between the opposite sex best friendship and romantic relationship based on the cognitive and affective evaluation of an individual. Three hundred early adult individuals living in Greater Manila Area were selected through purposive sampling and were given the survey, determined the participants' relationship status ang the person that they evaluated. Individuals were then categorized into two main groups namely, single individuals who evaluated their opposite sex best friend and individuals who are in a relationship who evaluated their romantic partner. Both groups were given the Quality of Relationship Inventory (QRI), which measured the individulas' belief towards the person he evaluated and the Yela's Tetragular Measure of Love which measured the feelings of the individuals towards his chosen person. An interview was also conducted in order to support the findings the survey. Each dimension of the cognitive and affective evaluation of single individuals were compared to that of the individuals who are in are in a relationship and the dimensions in which there are significant differences were the basis for defining the distinction between opposite sex best friendship and romantic relationship. It was found out that the two relationships siginificantly differed in the components of the affective evaluation and cognitive evaluation. The interview shows that experiences of cognitive and affective evaluation very depending upon the relationship of the individual. |
