Gender role identity of parents in relation to their gender role expectations regarding their children

This study is correlational in nature that intended to discover the relationship of parents' gender role identity to their gender role expectations regarding their children. A total of 208 Filipino parents participated in the study. Their different gender role identities were classified using the Bem's Sex Role Inventory translated in Filipino. Parents' gender role expectations regarding their children in terms of domestic responsibilities, physical appearance and play preference and behavior were assessed using the Perceived Gender Role Expectation Scale. The results were statistically analyzed to help categorize their traditional or egalitarian gender role expectations. Results of this study showed that there was no relationship between gender role identity of the parents and their gender role expectation regarding their children.
