Paras, Ida T. This study explores how adolescent sexual behavior is influenced by four variables: a) parental communication, b) agreement with social norms, c) experience of sexual guilt, and d) peer communication. Data gathering was done through convenient sampling wherein participants were asked to answer surveys consisting of the scales used to measure the variables previously mentioned (e.g. Sexual Socialization Instrument (Lottes and Kuriloff, 1994), revised Mosher Guilt Inventory (Mosher, 1979), Weighted Topics Measure of Family Sexual Communication (Fisher, 1993), Sociosexual Orientation Inventory (Simpson and Gangstead, 1991). Pearson R Correlations are used to find relationships between the four factors while Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) was used to determine whether the two independent variables (gender and sexual activity) interact wtih each of the dependent variables. Results for the Pearson R Correlation showed that there exists a relationship between peer communication and agreement to social norms (r=0.22), peer communiction with regards to experience of sexual guilt (r=-0.36) and agreement to social norms and experience of sexual guilt (r= -0.18). Multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) produced results which illustrated main effects were present between gender and agreement social norms, giving support for the existence of the double standard issue in the Philippines. In addition, main effects between gender and peer communication was present: males communicate more with their peers regarding sexual matters. Females, on the other hand, experience more sexual guilt than males which is illustrated by the main effect of gender and experience of sexual guilt. 2007-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/8828 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Sexual behavior survey--Philippines Sex instruction--Philippines Teenagers--Philippines Psychology |
