Convenient sampling design was utilized. Twenty-eight (28) single women fitting the criteria set were gathered through referrals, friends and family. An interview guide for in-depth interview and a tape recorder for accurate data collection were the instruments used. The two female researchers conducted the interview to avoid any discomfort on the part of the respondent in the presence of a male researcher. The major findings of the study were generated through tabulating the transcribed results of the interviews, and determining any similarities and differences among the responses of the respondents. It was gathered that women enter live-in relationship for three (3) main reasons : first, they cohabship in order to test their compatibility with their partners before getting married. Next, they live-in because they find themselves pre-maritally pregnant and/or financially troubled with the hope that their live-in partners may help ease their condition. Lastly, women see living-in as a source of affection, they have that need to feel important and loved, even without permanency. It was also generated that women go through certain obstacles like family conflicts and oppositions, and adjustment to the new lifestyles, and it is through these experiences that contribute to their growth and maturity. Although majority of women involved in live-in relationship feel generally satisfied, there are still those who feel dissatisfied because of the uncertainty of their relationship. Finally, women cohabitate by choice but their ultimate goal is marriage. These single women each have their reasons why they entered live-in relationships. Living-in is something these women do not solely do to gain popularity or rebel, it is a decision they make with the thought that it may ease or make their lives better. 1995-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etd_bachelors/8880 Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Single women Cohabitation Interpersonal relatons Unmarried couples x2 Living together Psychology |
