The effects of the intensity of instagram usage on body dissatisfaction as moderated by gender

This study aimed to describe and compare the relationship of instagram intensity usage and body dissatisfaction between male and female young adults. The study involved 250 undergraduate students of De La Salle University, 125 males and 125 females. The researchers utlilized a correlational research design in describing the relationship between the variables. The instagram intensity scale was used in measuring the frequency of use and feelings of connectedness towards the instagram social media site while one of the subscales under the Multidimensional Body Relations Questionnaire (MBSRQ) was used in measuring body dissatisfaction, specifically the Body Area Satisfaction Scale (BASS). The results have shown that instagram intensity usage does not correlate to body dissatisfaction and that males have higher body dissatisfaction than females.
